A Turn Around Is Coming – Part 1

Jesus Is Sent to Bring the Turn Around

Introduction: The God of Turnarounds

This message explores how Jesus brings true turnaround—restoring hope, healing brokenness, and leading us into freedom and renewed faith through His presence and power.

When we speak about a turnaround, we are speaking about change—real change. Change that moves a situation from despair to hope, from brokenness to restoration, from darkness to light. Deep within every human heart is the longing for things to change for the better. We desire improvement, healing, peace, purpose, and meaning. We long for circumstances to shift, for burdens to lift, and for life to make sense again.

The greatest example of a true and lasting turnaround is found in the Gospels. Jesus did not merely speak about change—He embodied it. Everywhere Jesus went, lives were turned around. People who were overlooked were restored. People who were broken were healed. People who were bound were set free. People who lived in darkness were given sight—both physically and spiritually.

Jesus is not only capable of bringing a turnaround; He was sent for that very purpose.

Jesus Declares His Mission

At the very beginning of His public ministry, Jesus makes a bold and unmistakable declaration in the synagogue at Nazareth. He reads from the prophet Isaiah and announces that this Scripture is fulfilled in Him.

📖 Luke 4:18–19 (NKJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

This is not a poetic statement—it is a mission statement. Jesus is clearly declaring why He has come. Everything that follows in the Gospels flows out of this declaration. Jesus is sent by the Father, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to bring about a divine turnaround in human lives.

The Two-Fold Ministry of Jesus

Jesus’ ministry can be understood through two inseparable movements: He is anointed to preach, and He is anointed to heal. These two are never disconnected, because God cares about the whole person—spirit, soul, and body.

1. Anointed to Preach - The Gospel to the Poor

The “poor” are not only those lacking finances. Biblically, this includes the destitute, the needy, the powerless, the rejected, and those who know they have nothing to offer God. To these, Jesus brings good news—hope, dignity, and belonging.

In Luke’s Gospel, we see Jesus preaching to crowds who are weary, oppressed, and longing for relief.

📖 Luke 6:20–22 (NKJV)

“Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you… for the Son of Man’s sake.”

Jesus is not romanticising suffering. He is proclaiming that their current situation does not define their future. The Kingdom of God is breaking into their reality. Their poverty, hunger, grief, and rejection are not the end of the story. A turnaround is coming.

The Year of Jubilee

Jesus also proclaims “the acceptable year of the Lord,” referring to the Year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25). In Jubilee, debts were cancelled, slaves were freed, land was restored, and families were reunited. Jesus is declaring that through Him, a greater Jubilee has arrived—a spiritual and eternal restoration.

When Christ’s atonement is fully embraced, people are transferred out of the dominion of sin, darkness, and Satan’s influence, and brought into communion with God’s family. This is not partial restoration—it is a complete turnaround.

2. Anointed to Heal

Jesus does not stop at preaching. His words are always accompanied by action. He heals:

· The brokenhearted — emotional, relational, and spiritual wounds

· The blind — both physical blindness and spiritual darkness

· The bruised and oppressed — those crushed by life, trauma, and demonic torment

When Jesus’ sacrifice and bruised body are embraced, those who are shattered by life are brought into full restoration—body, soul, and spirit.

Preaching the Gospel to the Poor in Action

Jesus ministers entirely through the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. He speaks only what the Father speaks and does only what the Father does.

📖 Luke 4:32 (NKJV)

“They were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority.”

After being rejected in Nazareth, Jesus moves to Capernaum, where the people receive Him. They recognise the authority of His words and are drawn to Him.

📖 Luke 6:17–19 (NKJV)

“A great multitude… came to hear Him and be healed… and power went out from Him and healed them all.”

We do not know all their names or stories, but we know one thing—their lives were changed. Healing prepared their hearts to hear truth. Jesus does not only heal bodies; He prepares people for eternal restoration in the Kingdom of God.

Father God never destined His children to remain destitute or hopeless. His desire is life abundant.

Healing the Brokenhearted

One of the clearest pictures of Jesus healing the heart is found in Luke 7.

📖 Luke 7:47–48 (NKJV)
“Her sins, which are many, are forgiven… Your sins are forgiven.”

This woman was publicly known for her sin and likely carried deep shame and rejection. While others judged her past, Jesus spoke forgiveness over her life and restored her dignity. Her love flowed from a heart that knew it had been truly forgiven.

Jesus does the same kind of restoring work with others:

  • The Samaritan woman at the well (John 4), rejected and isolated, is met personally by Jesus and offered new life.

  • The woman with the issue of blood is healed physically, but also publicly affirmed and restored as a “daughter.”

Jesus does not only heal outward wounds—He heals the heart. Broken hearts are everywhere, and Jesus calls us to walk with people in compassion, bringing restoration rather than judgement.

Proclaiming Liberty to the Captives

📖 Luke 4:33–36 (NKJV)

In the synagogue, a man tormented by an unclean spirit is completely set free by the authority of Jesus. With a single command, Jesus releases him from bondage.

What stands out is that the demon leaves without harming the man. Jesus brings freedom without causing further pain. His deliverance restores rather than destroys.

Today, captivity may look like addiction, fear, oppression, or spiritual bondage. Jesus still proclaims liberty, and He sends His church to bring that same freedom with wisdom, care, and love.

Recovery of Sight to the Blind

📖 Luke 18:40–43 (NKJV)

A blind man cries out to Jesus, calling Him Son of David, recognising Him as the promised Messiah. Jesus asks what he wants, and the man responds in faith: “Lord, that I may receive my sight.”

Jesus says, “Receive your sight.” The healing is given, but it must be received. Faith is the response that activates the turnaround.

This healing points not only to physical sight, but also to spiritual sight. Jesus came so that no one would remain in darkness, confusion, or blindness to truth.

Faith and Turnaround

Faith is not complicated or mystical. It is trust—believing that Jesus is who He says He is and that His words carry authority and life.

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus often says, “Your faith has made you well.” Faith is simply responding to Jesus with confidence in His power, His truth, and His love.

Turnaround begins when Jesus speaks—and faith responds.

Summary: The Mission Has Not Changed

Jesus’ mission remains the same:

📖 Luke 4:18–19 (NKJV)

God still desires to turn lives around—one person at a time. This theme of turnaround is not human imagination; it is the heart of God.

Just as Jesus was sent by the Father, He now sends us—to preach the gospel, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty, and to bring sight to the blind.

Revival spreads when transformed people tell others what Jesus has done for them.

Gentle Reflection

· Where in your life do you need a turnaround today?

· Are there areas of brokenness, bondage, or blindness that you need to bring to Jesus?

· Who around you is longing for hope, healing, or freedom?

Let us be a people who believe that Jesus still turns lives around—and who are willing to be part of that work in our families, our community, Kalamunda, and beyond.

A turnaround is coming—because Jesus has come. Amen

Continuing the Journey – A Turn Around Is Coming (Part 2)

In Part 1, we have seen that Jesus was sent by the Father to bring true turnaround—healing broken hearts, setting captives free, restoring sight, and calling people into faith and wholeness. Through the Gospels, we are reminded that turnaround begins when we encounter Jesus and respond to Him in trust.

In Part 2, we will go deeper into how God brings turnaround through life’s processes. We will explore how He humbles us to purify our hearts, defends us against our enemies, and ultimately draws us closer and lifts us higher into His purposes. If you desire to understand how God works through challenges, discipline, and deliverance to bring lasting transformation, you are warmly invited to continue the journey.
