How do I begin a relationship with God?

It’s not about religion—it’s about saying yes to Jesus. A new life starts with a simple, heartfelt decision to trust the One who already loves you. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart… you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9

💭 Where Do I Start?

Maybe you've wondered, “How do I even begin with God?” You’re not alone in that question.

For many people, the idea of knowing God personally can feel vague or even intimidating. Some think they need to be “better” before coming to Him. Others think religion is only for certain kinds of people—those who already have it all figured out.

And then there are those who feel too far gone… too broken, too uncertain, or too unsure if God would even listen.

But here’s the truth:
God is not far. And He’s already waiting to begin a relationship with you.
No matter your background, doubts, or past, His arms are open.

🔑 What God Really Wants

Many religions teach that we must follow strict rules or perform rituals to get closer to the divine. But Christianity is different.

The Bible teaches that what God wants most is not performance—it’s relationship.
He created you with love and intention. And He wants to walk with you, speak to you, and guide you through life—not as a distant judge, but as a loving Father, a faithful Friend, and a personal Savior.

As Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” —John 14:6

This isn’t about earning your way in. It’s about trusting the One who already made a way—Jesus.

❤️ Building a Relationship With God Is Like Falling in Love

Think about this: when someone wants to build a deep relationship—like preparing for marriage—they don’t stay distant. They want to spend time with the person, learn about their heart, share their own secrets and dreams, and find ways to make them feel loved and valued.

They look forward to every conversation. They plan time together. They enjoy simply being in each other’s presence.

That’s the kind of relationship God desires with you.

We’re told in Genesis:

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…’” —Genesis 1:26

God created us in His image—with the capacity for love, relationship, and intimacy. That means He feels, He listens, He cares, and He responds.

So it’s no surprise that the things we long for in a meaningful relationship are reflections of what God also longs for with us:

· Just like we want someone to listen, God wants us to speak to Him in prayer

· Just like we want to be known, God wants us to seek Him through His Word

· Just like we want to be trusted, God wants us to rely on Him

· Just like we enjoy thoughtful gestures, God delights in our obedience and worship

The Bible says:

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” —James 4:8

✨ What’s My First Step?

So how do you begin?

It starts with believing that God truly loves you, and that Jesus came to make that love available to you. The Bible explains the beginning of this relationship very simply:

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9

Confessing Jesus means recognizing that He is Lord—not just a historical figure, but the Son of God who gave His life to save yours.
Believing means trusting that God truly raised Him from the dead—proving that love has conquered sin, guilt, and even death.

This is where everything changes. This is where life begins again.

🌿 Don’t Walk This Journey Alone

Starting a relationship with God isn’t a one-time prayer and then you’re done. It’s a growing walk of faith—and it grows faster, deeper, and stronger when you’re connected to others.

That’s why being part of a church family matters. You learn from those who have walked with God longer. You get help understanding the Bible, find encouragement when life is hard, and discover the joy of doing life with people who are also pursuing God.

As it says in Proverbs:

“He who walks with wise men will be wise…” —Proverbs 13:20

We were never meant to figure everything out on our own.

“God, I want to know You. I believe You sent Jesus to die for me, and I believe He rose again. I confess Him as my Lord, and I open my heart to receive Your love and forgiveness. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and teach me how to walk with You every day. I want to begin this journey with You—starting now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
